Does my leadership reflect Christ?

As Christian Leaders do we show the ethical and moral integrity that should be inherent in us as we accept our call from God? Do we teach others the Gospel and how to emulate Jesus but not adhere to the words we speak to others? Do we lead people safely to Christ or do we lead them off a cliff when our actions do not represent what we preach? Our moral integrity and ethical choices require that we seek the word of God to be sure that we are following His word to lead those He has placed under our leadership. As Paul stated in 1 Cor. 11:1, “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ”, what am I doing to be sure that my life is an example of Christ? Many leaders fear leading because they do not want to be the cause of anyone stumbling. But we do not want to become like the Pharisees focusing on legalism and a list of laws but be focused on the command of Jesus to love God above all else and to love one another. If we follow this command, do we not incorporate all the commands that have been given? Ethical behavior and moral integrity are centered on love – love for one another and love for God. If we allow God to search our heart and soul and fill us with His love, then we can shepherd His people with boldness and authority that we are being the example that God has called us to be.

  1. I disagree with one thing in the article. I do not believe that most leaders fear leading, I believe that most of the time the leader may not consider others in their quest to lead. They use people to get where they want to be. This is the cause of most of their problems in leadership.
The article I found discussed the fact that sometimes the leaders do not understand their followers. They do not understand the way the follower works. His example was a man who was on a team, and the mentality was that the group would split things up to get it done. This man who had come from a family where all decisions were made through that family relationship and they would work together to accomplish the goals of individuals for the good of the family he could not work independently effectively. In your example about following Jesus as our model of leadership we need to realize that we are leading complex people. Jesus cared for each individual, he understood weaknesses and strengths. Jesus took into consideration the goal with the follower in mind, knowing how to empower and to call others to action. To lead like Jesus you must consider your followers above yourself.
