Tribute to A Great Leader

I originally had a different post written up for this week but I feel compelled to voice my concern over the passing of a great leader in this generation. Also, being a news junky I am truly saddened that no major news station has picked up the passing of this man’s life. David Wilkerson was one of the great leaders of Christianity in this and previous generations. He touched the lives of multiplied millions, and the God-inspired works he founded now outlive him. The impact of his life is immeasurable—not only in his preaching, writing, and founding of world-changing ministries, but in his love, devotion, compassion and ability to stir our faith for greater works. Often we talk about effective leadership but we stop at the impact that a leader has on his current generation or current responsibility. True effective leadership is passing on that heritage and wisdom to the next generation. I am truly saddened that this man’s death has not rocked the secular world as it has the Christian world. His decisions and ministries truly stand in stark contrast to those lives that were merely lived for selfish gain or vain pursuit. Wilkerson was known for his unlimited faith. He believed God could change the lives of gang members and transform the most desperate drug addicts. He believed he could be a man who loved his wife and children well. And he did. Wilkerson lived his life well, to the glory of God. May he continue to challenge and inspire future generations.

  1. Justin,
Thank you for sharing this video about David Wilkerson. I had read several short reports about his death, but none were worthy of the recognition that he deserves as a great Christian leader. As shown in this video David Wilkerson was the epitome of a Christian seeking the face of God and following the leading of God throughout his life. He stepped outside of his comfort zone so many times because God called him into new ministry. As he visited places and saw needs he went right into action and did whatever was needed. Not only did he act but he built major ministries in each of those places by setting up well planned organizations that continue today.
I remember reading The Cross and the Switchblade when I was in high school. That book touched my life at that time, which caused me to read more about the authors. I was amazed at the life and ministry of Wilkerson at the time, but had no idea what he had accomplished after his writing of this book and his involvement with Teen Challenge.
This video portrays to all who watch it how a great leader should act and live!
