David Wilkerson: a life of dedicated leadership

David Wilkerson was a Pastor in New York who recently passed away in a car accident had a life that was dedicated to God and servant leadership. Wilkerson answered his call to minister to the gangs of New York and faced many obstacles as many leaders do in fighting for God's kingdom. He faced many obstacles but never gave up and was obedient to the call that God had placed upon his life. Wilkerson is proof that God can use anyone as a Christian leader to make a difference in the world. Three aspects of a Christian leader’s life and that were in Wilkerson are: 1. Christian leaders must have Godly vision and be able to communicate it. 2. Wilkerson’s life was unselfish. Being willing to put other first and give of oneself is vital when leading God’s people. “When one is willing to pour their life into the lives of others with sincerity and humility, it is then that they are living with the mind of Christ.” 3. Christian leaders must be obedient to their call. Wilkerson had a life of continued faithfulness. I love how the article explains how real Godly success is measured not by numbers or buildings, but by faithfulness to one’s call. I did not know of Wilkerson but after a friend mentioned the Godly man and leader that he was, I have discovered that the life of David Wilkerson was a life lived of Godly servant-hood leadership that has a lot to be learned from.

  2. Ryan I appreciated this post because it brings up an important aspect of leadership that I have not reflected upon during this course: Personal Leadership. Before we attempt to lead others, it is paramount that we discern the faithfulness to which we are leading ourselves. Are we utilizing our time and gifts to bring glory to the Father? Or are we poorly stewarding the resources which God has deposited into our lives? I appreciated how this article demonstrated that Wilkerson understood who God had called him to be and that he pursued God’s calling with determination. Moreover, he was faithful to God’s calling even in the face of opposition and criticism. In other words, he effectively led himself to be the man God had called him to become. My hope and prayer is that the Holy Spirit will help me to first lead myself before I attempt to lead others. At the end of the day, I want to be able to say that I know who I am in Christ and that I am walking in God's calling for my life. I want to faithfully lead myself to be all that God has called me to be.
